MUSE

Here’s to Our Journeys in 2024 and the Magic We Each Bring!

To those near and far, may this year bring many wonders to you all! May we infuse the world with the fragile and ferocious power of beauty, belief, and love.

Today, I cast this magic into the world: MUSE — a quiet release that I’ve been holding onto for a while. Stream Muse for free exclusively on Bandcamp or snag a copy to keep.

Muse on Bandcamp. Art generated by me in collab my with the robots of Kaiber AI.

My lyrics for Muse are inspired by the opening Invocation to the Muse in Homer’s Odyssey:

Sing, O Muse, of he who wandered many ways
With his heart cast upon the wine dark sea
He is lost
He is found
In love and war and glory
He sails by star and wind; sun and moon
By constellations’ spin
Past whirlpool and maelstrom
Out of reach of Siren and Sea-Salt Grinding Sorceress
He is heading home
Begin where it begins
Sing as you have always sung
Tell it for our time

I love the last lines — that the Muse tells our stories for our time. This idea reaches forward around the 8th or 7th centuries BCE.

This past fall, I had amazing travels to Turkey and Greece sailing the Aegean with Dave—the birthplace of these stories that continue to capture my imagination and my heart.

A Glance Back at 2023…

There are too many wonderful 2023 highlights to name, but I released two new singles and music videos this year including Last Cicada for the Summer Solstice; I renewed delight in live performance with George Heathco, Chris Becker, and dancers from Toni Valle’s 6 Degrees Dance Company as the Misha Penton Collective in residence for Sculpture Month Houston at the Silos at Sawyer Yards and a performance celebration of the release of Earthshine for the Winter Solstice.

Misha and friends in concert at Silver Street at Sawyer Yards for the Earthshine music video release party. Misha Penton, voice. George Heathco, guitar. Chris Becker, laptop. Dorianne Mcdonald and Margo Smolik of Toni Valle’s 6 Degrees Dance Company.
