I invite you to listen to the sound work below on headphones or earbuds as you experience my MediaWall video. The audio is about 7 minutes and the MediaWall film is about 13 minutes... so the sound and film overlap in many ways...

Spend as little or as much time as you wish... please allow a moment for the file to load, and the sound work will loop automatically:

Medusa Emergent
Misha Penton: soprano, concept, sound work.
Boja Kragulj, clarinet.

Experience the audio below if the loop above doesn't work for you. Simply press play for a 13 minute sound work...

Medusa Emergent is a multi-version media and voice work inspired by the formidable snake-haired Gorgon of Greek myth. The work's iterations include the BSU MediaWall, live performances, a series of short films, and creative and experimental writing pieces. I'm a contemporary opera singer, experimental vocal composer, director, and media artist, and my work seeks to re-imagine the possibilties of opera in the 21st century. My practice is often driven by improvisation, chance, and indeterminacy, with meaning emerging through the creative process itself. I hope to create works which honor and highlight the diminishing role of the inner life in an ever-fragmented, ever-exteriorized and overdriven world.

I'm a performance maker, media artist, and writer. I create experimental voice pieces, and invent and perform solo and collaborative (post)opera and new music works. My projects blossom in many forms: live performances, audio and video works, site specific / installation pieces, and writings. I'm currently a PhD candidate in Music and Voice at Bath Spa University supervised by Pamela Karantonis, Director of Studies, and James Saunders, Second Supervisor.
